Hatchet 2014

Through the years, Snow Peak has dabbled in axes and hatches in the traditional Japanese style. This edition, from their most recent release in 2014 would ultimately be the last to hit the market.

This piece was recalled shortly after its release due to safety concerns.

Made in Japan

The double-beveled blade shows off a rightly polished bare metal from the deeply black finish of the rest of the head. Small channels along each side provide air pockets during the strike, reducing the likelihood of the hatched becoming stuck.

Asterisk

Like any of Snow Peak's bespoke items, this hatchet's only branding is their asterisk mark burned in to the lower part of the handle on one side.

Recall Notice

Snow Peak offered just over 200 of these hatches to US consumers, but as they made their way in to use some noticed the handle was cracking making the head prone to loosening. Thankfully, no one was injured and Snow Peak quickly issued a recall for all products in addition to a full refund. This piece came from someone who did not opt for the recall, instead choosing to use it as decor.
