Portable Chair

A white label product, this compact chair was offered in the early 1980s just prior to the shift and focus to car camping Snow Peak would undertake in 1986.

The non-descript design features no Snow Peak logos or branding, with packaging design that emphasizes the brand ambiguity Snow Peak was experiencing at this time.

Portable Chair styles were offered as early as the 1950s, and are still offered through multiple companies to this day.

Cross-Braced Design

Unfolded, the Portable Chair is tensioned against itself, so as you sit and apply pressure the frame only gets stronger. However, this design puts a high amount of stress on the components, making them prone to long-term failure after repeated use.

Affordable

At just ¥500 (About $3.50 at current exchange rates), this chair offered a simple and cheap option to those looking for a seat while outdoors.

Bright Colors

Like the box itself, the color selection and striped design was already retro at the time of its creation. The dyed cotton material is a heavy canvas and creates an easily spotted place to sit while outdoors.
