4-Claw Crampons (1960s)

This style of crampon, also called X-Mod, lasted in Snow Peak's product line relatively unchanged through more than five decades. This set stands out in a few ways that give insights in to when it was produced.

The script logo debossed in the metal A Kojitsu price tag still applied with a price of ¥880 (about $5.60 today) indicates how early this set is. Pre-dating more bespoke Snow Peak packaging, the focus is on the retailer supporting Snow Peak's wholesale mission at the time. While the script logo was phased out between 1967 and 1970, the orange color option came on the later side of that.

Deadstock

Outdoor retailer, Kojitsu (also spelled Kojitu as seen on this tag) has been open for 100 years supporting the climbers and mountaineers in their journeys. This pair of Snow Peak crampons was offered through them and ultimately never used.

Adjustable Fit

With just two components on a hinge, this style of crampon easily fits most boot sizes and shapes. The two strap design at each corner allows for additional fit and flexibility depending on what you were attempting to climb.

Bare Band

Snow Peak crampons can be roughly dated two ways, the first is the logo, second is the color. Here we see a bar back band with orange finish, placing this in the last run before the logo was updated to a newer version.
