Gathering Around the Fire
A campfire is more than heat—it’s a place to share quiet moments with friends and family. The Makulite was developed to balance two opposing needs: a fire pit wide enough for everyone to gather around, yet compact and light enough to carry in a backpack for solo use.
Development Background
With the rise of solo camping, the outdoor market filled with lightweight fire pits designed for portability. While convenient, many of these lacked space for arranging larger logs or enjoying the process of tending the fire. Too often, the experience of gathering around the flames was reduced to a small, personal activity.
The Makulite was designed to change that. The goal was simple: create a fire pit that keeps the benefits of ultralight gear while preserving the scale and atmosphere of a real campfire.
From Concept to Form
The solution was a unique structure built from two curved panels and foldable components. The slim, vertical parts pack flat for easy transport, while the reduced part count makes assembly straightforward. Once logs are placed on the firebed, the sidewalls naturally reinforce themselves, resisting deformation from heat and improving durability.
This design allowed the Makulite to meet both goals: light enough to pack, but wide enough to build and enjoy a fire properly.
Ventilation and Flame Design
The triangular cutouts along the side are not decorative. They were engineered to reduce weight while maintaining proper airflow for clean combustion. The design ensures that flames remain visible while wood burns efficiently, preserving the look and feel of an open fire.
Evolving Into Makulite 2
Released in December 2023, Makulite 2 refined the original concept. The cooking grate now supports two height levels and can be mounted directly to the wind guard, allowing for cooking over embers or flame. The grate itself can also be removed entirely for an unobstructed fire view.
The Final Shape
At just 1.7 pounds (794 g, excluding the grate), the Makulite is remarkably light for its size. Folded dimensions of 8" x 16" (21 × 40 cm) make it easy to slip into a backpack, yet the wide firebed provides room to gather with others.
The Makulite was developed to protect the essence of the campfire—whether alone with the flames or surrounded by friends. In a market crowded with ultralight gear, it remains a fire pit designed to preserve scale, atmosphere, and the experience of tending the fire.
