During the 1947 climb of the Lost Arrow Spire in Yosemite National Park, climbers Salathé and Nelson utilized the forged thin-blade design to hammer in to the hard granite stone of Yosemite without buckling. Their usage in the park earned them the namesake of the spire they helped ascend.

Evernew, a Japanese outdoor equipment manufacturer produced this Lost Arrow style piton between the 1970s and 1980s.
