Peace Cabin x KōROGI Upcycled Hexa Tarp Eclipse Seat Pad
As tents and tarps are exposed to the elements, the often synthetic fibers and coatings break down - shedding microplastics and forever chemicals into the ground water, making it often better to retire them. But what if you want to keep the product out of a landfill all together? Recognizing the abundance of still usable material in each rainfly, tent, and tarp, we partnered with Peace Cabin in Pennsylvania to begin an upcycling program, turning retired camping goods in to new pieces for home and camp.
The first release starts with a 1994 Snow Peak Hexa Tarp L that we had acquired for a Snow Peak museum activation. Unfortunately with time the weather proofing had started to deteriorate, making it unsuitable to use outdoors. It was sent off to Peace Cabin with a simple mission, use as much of the material as possible. Embracing the unique character of second-use materials, Peace Cabin was able to re-use 65% of the total material - as well as grommets and eyelets.
As a finished piece, each Eclipse cushion is completely unique. Different in color and how the color was used. Some may have slight discoloration, or fabric swatches in unique places - but all of them work to keep materials out of the landfill.
